OPPO RENO 6 UNBOXING

The annual ritual of the smartphone launch is well known to us all, as is the inevitable product film/unboxing film/RTB film/whatever.

We knew Oppo would need a similar unboxing for the 2021 flagship: the Reno6. But we didn’t know (yet) how to make unboxings feel not boring. There was also the matter of Ranbir Kapoor—Oppo’s very own celeb ambassador.

A bit of cultural context: celebrity endorsements are usually a bit formulaic when it comes to the Indian market, depicting them as know-it-alls regardless of the category. Like how when Shah Rukh Khan advertises wallpapers, he’s suddenly an expert in home decor. For Oppo, Ranbir has played much the same role in their work.

Which led us to ask, how can a guy who’s famously offline (no social media presence for starters; quite an outlier among celebs) possibly know what a Mediatek chipset is? Thankfully, given his profession, it was a quick jump to realizing that he spends time surrounded by

various masters of their craft, all of them much better suited to giving the Reno6’s features a test-drive. And so we cast an irl-editor, an irl-makeup artist, and an irl-cinematographer to lend a lot more authenticity to our techie words.
Rounding out things was a surprise song courtesy the F16s, a Chennai-based indie-synth-funk band, who played out an unreleased track in full to show that the phone would gain about 12% of charge in a 3-min period. Now that’s fast.

People kinda loved it.

It became one of the most watched video from Oppo. Response for the band performance was really great. Oppo got more exposure in the cultural area through that collab.
